Our History

Founded: 1905

Dedicated: 1908

The church was organized on November 12, 1905, in the Wooddale Academy built in 1885 at the corner of Straw Plains Pike and Wooddale Road. The Rev. J. L. Cagle was the first pastor with Bros. G. F. Cannon and G. G. Taylor ordained as deacons by Rev. Cagle and Rev. W. P. McPhatridge.

The first church building was dedicated on May 10, 1908. The congregation worshipped in the Wooddale Academy building until the new church building was made ready for use. The first teacher in the Wooddale Academy was Mrs. Mary Blake. Hatten Kennedy Blake was the mother of Mrs. Fay Bayless, the donor of the 3.5—acre plot for the present education building and ground reaching to Straw Plains Pike.
